Our winter hours are set, fresh stock is on the shelves inside the Nifty Thrift thrift store in Nassau, and our online store is open every day. Here is what changed and what to look for on your next visit.
Winter is coming to Rensselaer County, and our hours at the shop are changing with the season. You will find Forage With Me Books inside the Nifty Thrift thrift store at 3565 US 20 in Nassau, New York. Our winter hours are Monday, Friday, and Saturday from 9:30 AM to 4:00 PM Eastern, and Wednesday and Thursday from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM Eastern. We are closed on Tuesday and Sunday. If you are driving in from Troy, Albany, or the Berkshires, those Wednesday and Thursday evenings give you time to stop after work.
The Shop Shelves, As Always
Most books, CDs, DVDs, and Blu-Rays in the shop sit at the standard shelf price, marked as you browse. That has not changed. Antiquarian books are priced individually based on condition and market value, and ephemera such as old maps, Victorian trade cards, and historical letters are priced as marked. If you collect the local history of Rensselaer County, Columbia County, the Berkshires, or the Adirondacks, ask at the shop. That is the section we care about most, and new local material turns up in estate lots all the time.
A Book Fact Worth Knowing
Stephen King almost gave up on his first novel. He threw the opening pages of Carrie in the trash, and his wife Tabitha fished them out and told him to keep writing. Publishers then rejected the finished book about 30 times before Doubleday bought it in 1973 for a $2,500 advance. The paperback rights later sold for $400,000, and the book launched one of the biggest careers in modern fiction. That is why we tell people to look carefully at every shelf. You never know which plain paperback on a bargain rack is a first printing of something that matters.
New Arrivals and the Online Store
Fresh stock lands in the shop as we work through estate lots, so the shelves change week to week. Our online inventory is separate from the physical shop, with its own stock and its own prices. It is highly curated, and you can browse the full online inventory and buy direct right on this site. If you see something online that you want, text us at 518-328-4778 with a little notice. We will pull it from the online vault and make it available for local pickup at the shop at a steep discount, because local pickup saves the shipping, and those savings go to you.
Estate Libraries
We do not buy individual books, small lots, or general media at the shop, and there is no walk-in buy counter. When a full estate library becomes available, we review it from photos first. Email clear photos of the shelves to jim@foragewithmebooks.com. We look for libraries with antiquarian books, Capital District and Hudson Valley local history, vintage science fiction, classic literature sets, and role-playing game books. If a library is not a fit, we will say so plainly by email.
